Mimaroglu’s Parmak Çocuk

April 25th, 2008

parmakcocuk.jpgCouple of years ago while researching for early Turkish electronic pioneer, Ilhan Mimaroglu’s work I got to this 7″ title, “Parmak Cocuk(Finger Boy)” It is a children’s story read by Solmaz Sporel with musique concrete accompaniment by Ilhan Mimaroglu. Release date is unknown and guessed to be from late 1960s and early 1970s. I have kept my eyes open for this 7″ since the day I read about it.

Yesterday I’ve searched the Soulseek network for it again but this time I was lucky to find it as an mp3 from a peer. After a little bit of more research on the title I found that release is a pure rarity and has no copyright owner today. I’ve downloaded two tracks (second track is also recorded from a 7″ vinyl titled “Cizmeli Kedi” which is also a fairy tale from same the session/series.)

This release is sensational, weird and stimulating. It should sound loud for anybody into avant-garde electronic music history. Turkish speaking people should get a bit more thrilled by the narrative.

Note. There is also a CD-R version you can buy out there by Creel Pone, a bootleg label run by Keith Fullerton Whitman. Creel Pone’s release includes a color booklet and a silver foil-stamp on the crystal-clear resealable polypropylene compact-disc sleeve.

Studio - Yearbook #1

January 10th, 2008

studio-yearbook_1.jpgLast year, I’ve mostly listened to old stuff, some d-i-r-t-y playlists and some Fingertracks, regularly checked Bumrocks and Robots in Heat. Then I spent all my pocket money on Ebay hunting old titles I have discovered from mentioned sites. And honestly I haven’t pay attention to music stores selling new music really. But there are two exceptions to this: first Skull Disco stuff released early last year and Studio’s Yearbook #1 album. I am no big music magazine editor to sell you these albums but I can safely suggest you to check them both titles (I assume you are coming from a balearic disco or kraut-rock party.)

Ahmed Fakroun - Soleil Soleil

December 31st, 2007

Lately I am very fascinated with middle eastern dance music forms. Especially old disco and funk stuff made in 1970’s and 1980’s are lovely. This is a rare gem from Ahmed Fakround, a great Libyan artist. Video is dated 1985 and has got animated arabic typographic elements. If you like the track you should check for a newly released Prince Language re-edit version of this track on 12″. Now I guess I have to keep my eyes open on Ebay for the orijinal version (;

Happy new year!

Killer Thursdays @ Save The Robots NY Flyers (1996-1997)

December 27th, 2007

I miss NY parties a lot. I have scanned few Killer party flyers from 1996 and 1997. Bold typographic layout on the back of each flyer is lovely. I am sure I have one more Killer Thursdays flyer with a body builder photograph on the front side. This image became International Gigolo DJs label logo later in 2000s. Also should have more Save the Robots club flyers soon I am planning to scan and upload them here. If you know the designer of these flyers please contact me for credits. (Click ‘more’ link under this post for few more.)
