Meta-Markets Sparklines

We had so much fun last night at Ozgur’s. After buying and selling shares at Meta-Markets for hours I have noticed that I can quit my design job and get serious as a stock broker. We were four people sitting around a small table with four laptops, refreshing the pages, browsing, speculating and seriously investing for in the hope of gain. I was so lost so I couldn’t even eat my dinner, döner kebab.

Meta-Markets is Burak Arikan’s latest intriguing experimentation, combining stock market aesthetics with immaterial labor in social web services. You can walk in and start trading right away. Burak gives you 25β (Buraks) to invest upon registration. Again it is addictively fun. If you are curious for fun you can read more here.

My Facebook Profile IPO is doing pretty good. Price of my Flickr IPO shares are a bit high for current volume of the market.

As seen in the example above I have created a small application to visualize Meta-Market stocks based on Edward Tufte’s Sparklines. It dynamicly creates a word-size graphic that can be inserted anywhere in the text. Widget is currently showing stock name, market value transactions history and stock’s final value.

Usage is pretty simple. Just copy the following code and paste it into your web page.

<script src="http://www.darakilicoglu.com/mmsparklines/entities.php?_ID_" type="text/javascript"></script>

*Make sure to replace _ID_ with your actual entity id.
